Important Notice Regarding Certification
Board Certified Christian Counselor
Please note: Certification through the National Association of Christian Counselors (NACC), offered in partnership with Victorious Living Bible Institute (VLBI), is not the same as state licensure. Each state has its own laws governing the practice of counseling, and those regulations can vary significantly.
State regulatory laws are designed to protect the public and uphold professional standards. While NACC shares those goals, it also focuses on equipping Christian counselors with biblical truth to minister effectively in today’s world. We believe the Word of God is the ultimate source of healing and transformation. At the same time, we are committed to operating responsibly within the legal guidelines of each state.
Counseling Within a Ministry Setting
Most states acknowledge counseling as a valid function of the local church or religious ministry and generally do not interfere with such work when the following conditions are met:
-
Counseling is provided through a legally established church, ministry, or nationally recognized Christian organization.
-
The counselor has received appropriate training and commissioning from that recognized organization.
Understanding Certification
NACC certification through VLBI signifies the successful completion of coursework in a designated area of study. However, it is important to understand:
-
This certification is not a professional license.
-
It does not include supervised clinical hours or the ongoing assessments typically required for licensure.
-
It is not intended to replace state-regulated mental health credentials.
Important Considerations
Professional certification generally involves:
-
Supervised counseling experience to assess real-world application
-
Periodic recertification to maintain up-to-date skills and best practices
We encourage all students to:
-
Research their state’s legal requirements regarding counseling services
-
Serve under the covering of a local church or recognized ministry
-
Operate with integrity, accountability, and respect for both spiritual and legal standards
